ATCO Gas was proud to serve as the presenting sponsor at the BILD Calgary Economic Outlook reception, bringing together builders, developers, and industry leaders to discuss growth, housing, and the future of Calgary’s communities.
Hosted by the Building Industry and Land Development Association – Calgary Region (BILDCR), the event provided an opportunity for industry partners to connect, share insights, and better understand the challenges and opportunities shaping housing development across the region. As the gas utility serving Calgary and surrounding areas, ATCO Gas plays a critical role in enabling that growth through safe, reliable, and timely energy infrastructure.
“Through our engagement with the builder and developer community, ATCO strengthens its visibility and reinforces its role as a trusted industry partner,” said Aris Argyriou, Manager, Stakeholder Relations & Community Development at ATCO Energy Systems. “We are here to support development and drive it forward alongside builders and developers, not slow it down. Our role is to be an enabler of economic growth in Alberta.” During the reception, Mike Shaw, Vice President, Business Development, addressed attendees and reinforced ATCO’s commitment to working in partnership with the development community.
“Builders and developers are not just customers to ATCO – you are partners in growth,” Shaw said. “You create homes, jobs, and economic momentum, and our role is to ensure that energy infrastructure enables that progress rather than slowing it down.”
Shaw highlighted the scale of development underway in Calgary and the steps ATCO is taking to keep pace. In 2025 alone, ATCO completed more than 10,000 service installations in Calgary, surpassing the previous year’s total when surrounding regions are included. This record-breaking delivery reflects both the rapid growth of the region and ATCO’s commitment to supporting it.
Looking ahead, Shaw emphasized that speed of service will be a top priority for ATCO in 2026. “We are intentionally moving toward a more transparent, responsive, and customer-focused operating model,” he said. “Our commitment is to be an enabler of that momentum, not a constraint.”
That commitment includes publishing regional timelines for new service connections, piloting new construction approaches that reduce installation time and site disruption, and testing smaller, more visually appealing residential gas meters. Together, these efforts aim to provide greater certainty, clearer expectations, and faster decision-making for builders and developers—without compromising safety or reliability.
BILDCR works closely with governments and stakeholders to support vibrant neighbourhoods and new communities across the Calgary region. Events like the Economic Outlook reception play an important role in fostering collaboration between industry partners who share a common goal: meeting the housing needs of growing communities.
As Shaw noted in his closing remarks, “We value this industry deeply. We respect the challenges you face, and our focus is simple: respond fast, be more efficient, be more effective, and do it all with worker and public safety at the forefront.”
ATCO Gas looks forward to continuing to work alongside BILD Calgary and the builder and developer community as partners in building Calgary’s future.
