The core philosophy of the ATCO Australia Blue Flame Kitchen is to teach the next generation about safe and healthy food choices. To do this, our state of the art kitchen features a range of facilities that create a unique learning environment for students.
Our state of the art demonstration kitchen is set up with teaching in mind. The Blue Flame Kitchen features two large overhead TV screens which allow students to easily follow the demonstrations from our chefs from their work benches. We also provide easy to handle knives, so students can cut and prepare food safely during the class.
The Blue Flame Kitchen uses natural gas as our energy source to fuel our cooktop, oven, BBQ and our pizza oven. These familiar appliances are incorporated into the program as a hands-on way to promote both gas safety and food knowledge.
To reinforce our philosophy of fresh is best, we have a wonderful alfresco edible garden which we make use of throughout our Schools Program sessions. The kitchen garden is filled with fruit trees, flowers, herbs and seasonal vegetables which students are encouraged to nurture and incorporate into their cooking. By picking produce from our garden and using it in our kitchen we aim to encourage long-term healthy eating habits both at school and in the home. All aspects of the garden follow organic and sustainability principles by reducing waste, reusing kitchen scraps for composting and recycling our non-organic material.
