Gas is a safe, reliable and affordable source of energy for homes, businesses and industry.
ATCO Australia operates and maintains Western Australia?s largest reticulated gas network, with more than 14,500km of pipeline serving the Perth metropolitan area and regional centres including Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Bunbury and Albany ? and many towns and centres in between.
Our network mostly transports natural gas to your home, although in Albany the network operates slightly differently, delivering liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to homes and businesses.
As WA continues to grow and develop, we are focused on expanding the network to meet that growth, as well as maintaining existing infrastructure to ensure safe, reliable and affordable supply for years to come.
To distribute gas throughout the Perth metropolitan area and regional centres such as Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Bunbury, Busselton, and Albany, we operate three main gas distribution systems. Learn more about our gas networks.
When conducting work in the vicinity of gas infrastructure it is important to understand the type, location and if the infrastructure is considered a critical asset or not, also which notifications are required, prior to commencing work.
We're committed to maintaining our gas distribution network to the highest possible standard of safety and reliability. Part of this commitment involves the proactive replacement of our network.
ATCO Australia own and operate the gas network, we do not sell natural gas and are not a gas retailer. Learn more about the gas retailers in Western Australia including applications for new retailers.
As the sole network operator, our operations are regulated by various rules, regulations, and legislation, to ensure we deliver quality service at fair prices.
Gas outages and planned works that might impact gas supply in affected areas. Events will be updated as gas outages are reported and throughout a planned works project where customers gas supply may be affected.
In November 2024, the Economic Regulation Authority released its final decision on ATCO Australia?s 2025-29 Plan for Western Australia?s major gas distribution network. This marks the conclusion of a five-year access arrangement process, including public consultations to ensure safe, reliable, and affordable energy supply for customers. The decision reflects research showing natural gas remains vital, with 82,000 new households and 2,300 commercial customers expected to connect over the next five years. The plan balances network safety, reliability, and the transition to a lower-carbon economy while keeping costs low.
